Seeking a Consultant Geriatrician to join its dedicated team in Whangārei, the regional centre of Northland. The service provides comprehensive care for older adults across both urban and rural communities, with facilities including an Acute Care of the Elderly Unit, orthogeriatric support, front-door frailty pathways, and a rehabilitation ward. The department is known for its collaborative, multidisciplinary approach and strong links to community services.

This role offers the chance to contribute to a progressive and culturally responsive service. Subspecialty interests—such as dementia, falls, perioperative medicine or rehabilitation—are welcomed, with opportunities to shape service development and regional strategy. Teaching and mentoring are actively encouraged. While general medical on-call is not required, options exist for those wishing to maintain broader practice.

Qualifications and Experience:

Proven experience and expertise as a Geriatrician.

Subspecialty interests will be considered.

Hold post graduate specialist qualifications and registration in Internal Medicine /Geriatrician

Be eligible for an Annual Practicing Certificate and vocational scope of Internal Medicine with the Medical Council of New Zealand.

Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuing medical education.

Health New Zealand has a Collective Employment Agreement in place across all their Districts offering:

Annual leave: 6 weeks

CME Allowance and Leave - $16,000/2 weeks

$185,000 - $268,000 Base salary + allowances for job size, on call and availability.

Reimbursement of APC, college membership, and indemnity insurance.
